Connecting with a Recovery Program

“I looked at myself and realized I was worth it.”

For Jamie B., that was the precise thought that set his recovery in motion:

“I’m gonna have to retrain myself because I’m a different person when I use, and I can’t be that person if I’m sober. After you’ve been that person for a long time, there’s a lot of work involved” (2022).

At that moment, Jamie looked at his life and realized he could be more. It was the start of an internal desire to be sober, healthy, and whole.

But once you make that choice, where do you go? How do you take the first step toward lasting change?

How to Apply for Help

Taking the first step is simple. Applications for MentorWorks and Redwood Recovery are available online and easy to complete on The Family Life Center Recovery Page.

Here is how our programs support you on your journey:

MentorWorks Healthy Transition Homes (Sober Living)

Designed to help individuals build a stable, healthy life, this program offers:

  • A safe, drug- and alcohol-free living environment

  • Peer support groups and accountability

  • Dedicated case management services

  • Bus passes and transportation assistance

Redwood Recovery Intensive Outpatient Treatment

This structured substance abuse treatment program provides:

  • Individual therapy and counseling

  • Group education (covering relapse prevention, life skills, and family dynamics)

  • Frequent, supportive drug screening to encourage accountability

Finding the Right Fit

Many of our residents are referred to us by family, peers, probation officers, or the court system. Others find us through social media, community events, or family enrichment classes.

  • Applying from Incarceration: We frequently work with individuals currently in jail or prison. Because internet access is limited, family members can submit an application on their behalf using the “Proxy” signature line at the bottom of the form. Alternatively, incarcerated individuals can write to us directly to request a paper application. (Please include their full name, inmate number, and facility). We will conduct a background check and follow up directly to determine if our program is the right fit.

What Does True Recovery Look Like?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA, 2021), recovery is:

“…a process of change through which people improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.”

Our programs are designed for those who are ready to commit, willing to follow through, open to building a spiritual foundation (focused on deep connection, not necessarily religion), and ready to embrace accountability.

As actress and advocate Jamie Lee Curtis beautifully put it:

My recovery from drug addiction is the single greatest accomplishment of my life… but it takes work — hard, painful work. But the help is there, in every town and career, drug/drink-freed members of society from every single walk and talk of life to help and guide.”

— Jamie Lee Curtis (2018)

Gardens & Growth

Just like recovery, a garden requires consistent care, patience, and effort—but the results are beautiful.

This summer, with the help of incredible local volunteers, we planted gardens at each of our transition homes.

“Watching something grow is good for morale. It helps us believe in life.”

— Kaufmann

We are excited for the hope and renewal these gardens will bring to our residents, especially those transitioning to our homes directly from incarceration. There is something incredibly healing about watching the miracle of growth—both in the soil and in our community.
